Beautiful, historic, vibrant … York is famous for its medieval streets, city walls, Minster and delicious chocolate. Add to this superb shopping, world-class visitor attractions, a year-round festival events programme and friendly atmosphere, and you have got the perfect place for a relaxing and luxurious break.

The North York Moors are on York’s doorstep meaning you will be spoilt for choice whether you want the city, country or coast. You can discover the  North York Moors' unenclosed and unsurpassed stunning heather moorland, as well as the vast forest and woodlands which make up a fifth of the National Park.

Why not take a walk along the coast and discover towering cliffs, rocky shores, sheltered bays and sandy beaches? Or take in some rich history from the Iron Age to the Industrial Revolution. You can even explore further with a York & Beyond Explorer Pass, as it gives you access to up to 50 attractions; making sure you pack as much into your break as possible.

Dark Skies Festival

One major festival happening within the North York Moors, from 14th February to 1st March 2020, is the Dark Skies Festival.

This stargazing festival is filled with spectacular events, virtual reality experiences, exhibitions and more, right across the National Park. Being an area of low light pollution, the North York Moors has some of the best dark skies in the country with as many as 2,000 stars visible on a clear night.

If a festival atmosphere is really what you're after, there are also two great events in York, the Ice Trail running on the 1st and 2nd February 2020 and the JORVIK Viking Festival from Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd February 2020.
